Risk of Rain 2 Acolyte Skins

Quick Answer

Acolyte's Vessel skin uses Memento Mori and the Echo of Providence in Terminal Lucidity. Mastery instead requires a completed run or obliteration on Monsoon. Unlock the survivor before pursuing either cosmetic.

Acolyte's Vessel skin is earned through her Hallowed Concepts Memento Mori challenge. Her skin progression also includes the standard Mastery route. Mastery requires completing a run or obliterating on Monsoon. Memento Mori requires defeating the Echo of Providence in Terminal Lucidity while pursuing Acolyte's own cosmetic challenge.

Unlock Acolyte as a survivor first, then select her for the skin attempt. Defeating the Anima Harvester to unlock Acolyte is not the same task as defeating the Echo of Providence for Memento Mori. Skins change appearance rather than skills, health, or damage, so choose a cosmetic goal separately from an alternate-skill unlock.

Confirm the character and expansion before starting

Acolyte survivor portrait

Acolyte belongs to Hallowed Concepts and must be unlocked through A Broken Ritual before you can choose her for a new run. If her portrait is still unavailable, the immediate task is the survivor unlock, not a skin challenge performed on a different character.

Expansion sharing in cooperative play has limits. One owner can enable the expansion's stages, monsters, and items for the lobby, but a player without it cannot select Acolyte or permanently unlock its new content merely through that shared run access.

For a skin attempt, verify your own ownership, that Hallowed Concepts is enabled, and that Acolyte is the survivor you selected. A run can successfully clear an expansion boss while still being the wrong run for your intended character's cosmetic progression.

GoalRequired endpointMain constraint
MasteryComplete a run or obliterate on MonsoonThe qualifying run must use Monsoon difficulty
Memento MoriDefeat Echo of Providence in Terminal LucidityReach the hidden encounter and pursue Acolyte's own challenge
A Broken RitualRevive the Fallen Acolyte in Soulbound ThresholdUnlocks the survivor rather than replacing either skin objective

Check the locked cosmetic's challenge description on the survivor screen before departing. That gives you the objective to carry through the run instead of relying on a memory of another survivor's similar-looking skin.

Choose one skin route as the main objective

The Mastery and Memento Mori routes ask for different endpoints. Mastery is a difficulty-and-completion objective. Memento Mori is an expansion boss objective in a specific hidden realm.

You can encounter several challenges during one run, but a complicated route can introduce extra fights and choices that are unnecessary for the skin you actually want. If your immediate goal is Mastery, plan around a valid Monsoon completion rather than assuming you must open every Hallowed Concepts portal.

If your goal is Memento Mori, organize the run around access to Terminal Lucidity. Finishing a normal route without visiting that realm does not satisfy the named boss requirement, even if you fought well or collected many Hallowed items.

The Hallowed Concepts skin system also includes other challenge groups, but Acolyte belongs to Memento Mori. The ten-Hex finishing condition used by Against All Odds is not Acolyte's Memento Mori objective. Collecting ten Hexes and finishing elsewhere is therefore the wrong replacement for the hidden-boss route.

Prepare Acolyte's recovery for a long route

Acolyte's healing rules make preparation different from a survivor with ordinary regeneration. Her default N'kuhana's Grace passive converts healing into recoverable health rather than directly restoring current health.

Skill damage spends that reserve through healing orbs. A reserve without safe attacks does not immediately refill your bar, and repeated attacks without recoverable health do not provide the same recovery. This matters when you are trying to survive several encounters for a cosmetic objective.

Use Sacrifice to generate Convictions instead of ignoring the special while concentrating on melee attacks. A hit gives two Convictions, and a kill gives one more. At seven, you can invoke the Litany.

Dark Summons changes the recovery conditions during transformation: missing health becomes recoverable health, the reserve stops decaying for the window, and damage produces stronger healing orbs. Enter the window with targets available to attack rather than spending it all walking toward the encounter.

These are survival considerations for the skin route, not a requirement to farm a specific item combination. The default loadout can perform the route. Alternate skills offer different tools, but unlocking them is a separate objective with its own conditions.

Mastery requires a completed Monsoon outcome

For Mastery, select Monsoon before beginning the attempt. Clearing individual stages, surviving a long time, or killing one difficult boss does not by itself satisfy the requirement to complete the run or obliterate.

Choose a route that you can finish with the build you have. A skin attempt only benefits from additional loot when that loot helps you reach the qualifying endpoint. Extending the run without a reason also creates more opportunities to lose the completion you were working toward.

Keep Acolyte's melee positioning and Conviction cycle in mind during the final portion of the run. Quickstrikes can support movement as well as damage, and spending every charge on one target can leave you with fewer ways to reposition afterward.

The cosmetic reward does not improve the next attempt's base combat stats. If you want more practical options for future runs, examine alternate-skill challenges separately rather than expecting the Mastery skin to change the recovery passive or transformation duration.

After a qualifying completion or obliteration, return to the survivor screen and inspect the skin options. The goal is a visible selectable cosmetic, not simply the belief that a difficult run ought to have counted.

Reach Soulbound Threshold for the Memento Mori route

Soulbound Threshold ritual wave objective

A common route toward Terminal Lucidity passes through Soulbound Threshold. In solo play, obtain the N'tormat and at least one Page. Two-, three-, and four-player teams need four, nine, and sixteen total Pages respectively. Consumed Pages count, while Shredded Pages do not. Enter a new stage after meeting the requirement, then activate the Shrine of Descent before starting its Teleporter.

Finish the Soul-binding event and enter the Ritual Portal it creates. The Teleporter normally becomes non-interactable after this trial, except on Conduit Canyon. Use the Ritual Portal for the required hidden-realm route rather than another available portal.

At Soulbound Threshold, start the ritual at the Altar of N'kuhana. Clear the four challenges, then defeat both phases of the Anima Harvester. The first phase's death is a transition rather than the endpoint.

Every player receives three random Hexes when phase two appears. Check the penalties before repeating your previous movement and recovery pattern. Acolyte's already unusual healing system can feel different again if a healing-reduction Hex is added.

After phase two dies, interact with the altar using Beseech the orb. This completes the ritual, activates the door's sacrifice zone, and produces the reward and exit choices. Do not leave through the Mortal Portal if you still intend to continue toward Terminal Lucidity.

Open the Veil of Memory at the door

The door route uses Reincarnation in the sacrifice zone after the Soulbound Threshold ritual is complete. Cast it within the door's 18-meter zone to open the Veil of Memory, then use the Go beyond the veil interaction.

This zone has useful exceptions compared with ordinary Reincarnation transitions: it kills no one and does not require a N'tormat holder to stand in the circle. It is active after each completed ritual even without a complete N'tormat.

Do not assume those exceptions apply everywhere you can cast Reincarnation. The safe door behavior belongs to this completed-ritual zone. Casting the ability elsewhere simply because the skill name matches is not an equivalent route step.

Before moving on, decide what to do with the improved Hallowed Shrine. Hand of Life can remove eligible permanent Hexes for item choices, while Hand of Death grants more Hexes and closes Life. Those choices can affect your preparation for the next boss, but neither one substitutes for entering the Veil.

Defeat the Echo of Providence in Terminal Lucidity

Echo of Providence boss portrait

The Echo of Providence encounter is in Terminal Lucidity and has four phases. Defeating the Anima Harvester in Soulbound Threshold does not satisfy this requirement; it merely completes the earlier fight on this route.

Treat the hidden encounter as another full boss fight rather than a brief cosmetic interaction after the ritual rewards. Preserve the resources and combat options you need to finish it. Arriving in the realm is a route milestone, not the Memento Mori completion itself.

Do not confuse the Echo with Providence from the original Risk of Rain or Risk of Rain Returns. The cosmetic objective concerns the Risk of Rain 2 Hallowed Concepts encounter in Terminal Lucidity.

After the qualifying defeat, inspect Acolyte's skin options. A survivor unlock notification, an alternate-skill notification, and a cosmetic challenge notification refer to different rewards, so verify the actual skin rather than stopping at the first achievement message you notice.

Diagnose an attempt that ended without the skin

What happenedWhat to check
Acolyte stayed unavailable before the runOwn and enable Hallowed Concepts, then complete A Broken Ritual
A difficult run ended without MasteryConfirm the selected difficulty was Monsoon and the outcome was a qualifying completion or obliteration
The Harvester died but Memento Mori stayed lockedContinue through the Veil to the Echo of Providence encounter
You left Soulbound Threshold through a portalCheck whether you used the Mortal Portal rather than opening the Veil of Memory
Another survivor earned a cosmeticRepeat the intended character-specific objective as Acolyte
Ten Hexes were held at the endThat is a different skin group's condition, not Acolyte's Memento Mori boss objective

The cleanest attempt keeps the selected character, the exact challenge, and the required endpoint aligned. Once the cosmetic appears on Acolyte's survivor screen, equip it there; it changes her appearance while the selected combat loadout continues to determine her skills.
