For a general Risk of Rain 2 item tier list, prioritize a functioning combination of movement, damage, and defense rather than collecting only the highest-ranked damage item. Hopoo Feather, useful movement speed, strong damage triggers, and reliable defensive tools can each solve a problem that another damage stack leaves untouched. A particular survivor or inventory can raise a situational item well above its general placement.
These are editorial priorities for ordinary runs, with the first useful stack emphasized. They are not official ratings, measured win rates, or a guarantee that every S-tier pickup is the best choice in your current shop. The tables cover established passive items and selected expansion additions. Hallowed items, Hexes, N'tormat pages, and equipment have different conditions and are not forced into the same generic passive-item ranking.
Read the rating together with its condition
S indicates broadly valuable utility or a strong effect when the usual trigger is available. A indicates a high-priority item with a clear build or encounter condition. B indicates a useful situational pickup. C indicates a narrower benefit whose opportunity cost should be checked before printing or choosing it over another item of the same rarity.
A tier is a decision aid, not an instruction to delete everything below it. On a normal run, taking a free useful pickup and spending a printer's resources are different decisions. An item can be worth carrying without being worth trading away your movement and defense to acquire several additional stacks.
| Current problem | Check before choosing another damage item |
|---|---|
| You cannot leave an enemy's attack area | Movement speed, another jump, or a practical utility option |
| Groups survive after the first kill | Area effects and damage that spreads between targets |
| A single important enemy takes too long | Burst triggers, sustained on-hit effects, or armor reduction |
| You recover too slowly between encounters | Regeneration or healing that fits your movement pattern |
| You die during a committed attack | Protection and the route available after the attack |
Different items solve these gaps under different conditions. Read whether the effect needs a kill, a critical hit, an enemy within a distance, an active shield, or a skill returning from cooldown. The requirement can matter more than the effect's rarity.
Common-item priorities
| Tier | Item | Why it is useful | Condition to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Paul's Goat Hoof | Unconditional movement speed | Reassess control as speed rises |
| S | Mocha | Attack speed and movement together | Whether your kit benefits from both |
| A | Energy Drink | Stronger sprint movement | You must be sprinting |
| A | Soldier's Syringe | Faster attacks and applicable skill rhythms | The selected skill's actual speed interaction |
| A | Lens-Maker's Glasses | Critical chance for appropriate attacks | Railgunner converts it into critical damage |
| A | Gasoline | Helps a kill damage a surrounding group | An initial enemy must die |
| A | Crowbar | Strong damage to fresh high-health targets | It stops applying after the target passes the threshold |
| A | Focus Crystal | Damage against nearby enemies | The enemy must be within thirteen meters |
| A | Oddly-shaped Opal | Armor while out of danger | The protection is conditional |
| A | Cautious Slug | Recovery outside combat | It does not provide the same recovery during constant pressure |
| A, build dependent | Backup Magazine | More secondary charges | Your secondary must benefit from extra stock |
| A, build dependent | Tri-Tip Dagger | Bleed opportunities on repeated hits | Trigger frequency depends on the attacks used |
| B | Repulsion Armor Plate | Flat reduction to incoming hits | Many small hits and one huge hit are different problems |
| B | Topaz Brooch | Barrier after kills | A boss without adds gives fewer triggers |
| B | Delicate Watch | Extra damage while preserved | Dropping below its health threshold breaks it |
| B, specialist | Bustling Fungus | Healing after remaining stationary | Moving away ends the intended setup |
| B, specialist | Bison Steak | Bonus maximum health | Particularly relevant when Growth uses bonus health |
| C, situational | Bundle of Fireworks | Damage from interactable activation | Useful interactables must be near the fight |
| C, situational | Warbanner | A local attack and movement boost | You need to make use of the banner's area |
Crowbar is a clear example of a high placement with a limit. It is valuable for a large opening shot, but another stack does not solve sustained damage against an already injured boss. Focus Crystal similarly supports close combat without becoming universal extra damage from every distant attack.

Bustling Fungus changes substantially on Engineer's stationary turrets. A general B placement describes the requirement to stand still; a turret that naturally maintains that condition can make the same item a central part of the build. Rank the item against the survivor's behavior rather than treating the general letter as immutable.
Uncommon-item priorities
| Tier | Item | Main role | Condition to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Hopoo Feather | Another jump and more route options | Use it to avoid attacks and navigate deliberately |
| S | AtG Missile Mk. 1 | Strong chance-based damage on hits | Repeated attacks and proc behavior affect opportunities |
| S, burst builds | Kjaro's Band | Flame damage after a qualifying high-damage hit | Damage threshold and recharge |
| S, burst builds | Runald's Band | Ice damage and slow after a qualifying hit | Damage threshold and recharge |
| A | Ukulele | Damage across nearby targets | Targets need to be available within the chain's range |
| A | Will-o'-the-wisp | Area damage following a kill | It needs the first kill |
| A | Wax Quail | A stronger sprinting jump route | Learn the travel distance before a risky jump |
| A | Rose Buckler | Armor while sprinting | Standing still changes the benefit |
| A, equipment builds | Fuel Cell | Equipment stock and cooldown support | The equipment must be useful often |
| A, cooldown builds | Bandolier | Skill resets through ammunition drops | You must reach the drop |
| A, critical builds | Harvester's Scythe | Healing on critical hits | Enough critical attacks to provide recovery |
| A, critical builds | Predatory Instincts | Attack speed from critical hits | Maintain the triggering attack rhythm |
| B | Old Guillotine | Execute low-health elites | It does not replace all boss damage |
| B | Infusion | Bonus health developed through kills | Time and kill opportunities to build it |
| B | Death Mark | More damage to sufficiently debuffed enemies | You need four distinct debuffs |
| C, situational | Lepton Daisy | Healing during the Teleporter event | Its restricted event timing |
| C, situational | Squid Polyp | A temporary turret from interactables | Whether the turret is placed near meaningful combat |

The Bands are high priorities when your kit can reliably produce the qualifying hit. Their trigger is deterministic and followed by a recharge. Do not assume Luck makes them activate after every attack. AtG and Ukulele use chance-based triggers, so their evaluation follows different mechanics even though all three may appear in a damage inventory.
Death Mark is another important conditional pickup. It becomes strong when the inventory and skills can provide four debuffs. Without that setup, the headline damage increase is not a passive bonus that automatically applies to every enemy. Check the actual debuff sources before making it a printer priority.
Legendary priorities and the inventory they need
| Tier | Item | Main reason to value it |
|---|---|---|
| S, proc builds | 57 Leaf Clover | Improves applicable random effects through favorable rerolls |
| S | Brilliant Behemoth | Adds explosive damage to attacks |
| S, repeated hits | Symbiotic Scorpion | Permanently reduces enemy armor through hits |
| A | Ceremonial Dagger | Homing daggers continue damage after kills |
| A | Dio's Best Friend | A consumable recovery from death |
| A, utility builds | Hardlight Afterburner | Extra utility charges and reduced utility cooldown |
| A, skill builds | Alien Head | Broad skill cooldown reduction |
| A, missile builds | Pocket I.C.B.M. | Additional missiles from relevant items and equipment |
| A, critical builds | Laser Scope | More damage from critical strikes |
| A, drone builds | Spare Drone Parts | Strengthens drone attacks and support |
| A, group fights | Networked Suffering | Links infected enemies through pooled damage |
| B, healing builds | Rejuvenation Rack | Stronger healing that needs a useful healing source |
| B, healing builds | Aegis | Barrier from healing beyond full health |
| B, close combat | Frost Relic | A growing close-range damage area after kills |
| B, buff builds | Growth Nectar | Stat increases from maintained buffs |
| B, temporary-loot setups | Substandard Duplicator | Temporary copies following item pickups |
A legendary's rarity does not remove its setup condition. Laser Scope is much less informative as a priority if your important attacks seldom critically strike. Aegis needs healing beyond full health. Spare Drone Parts needs a drone-oriented contribution. Choose the effect the inventory can use, rather than assuming the rarest border must be the best answer to the current fight.
Clover does not improve every effect with a number in its description. Tougher Times is explicitly unaffected by Luck, and threshold-based Band triggers are not random rolls. The October 2026 update also fixed a potentially infinite Runic Lens and AtG chain. Rank a damage setup for its supported interactions rather than an old infinite-loop claim.
Selected expansion items deserve condition-aware ratings
Bolstering Lantern is a strong attack-speed candidate when enemies or allies remain nearby. Hiker's Boots rewards striking enemies from a higher elevation with critical chance and critical damage stacks. Both can be valuable, but you still need to satisfy the spatial condition instead of expecting the same benefit during every empty stretch of a stage.
Kinetic Dampener supplies armor while you have shield and a pulse when the shield breaks. Its value depends on preserving or recovering that shield condition. Faraday Spur builds charge through movement and changes jump behavior, so practice its release before treating an unfamiliar charged jump as a safe traversal tool.
Networked Suffering uses infected enemies and a global damage pool. The current structured effect is not a simple claim that every target always receives one hundred percent of every other target's direct hit immediately. Evaluate it as a group-damage system with its pooling behavior, rather than relying on an older simplified comparison.
Orphaned Core has a practical cleansing interaction when petted, alongside its friendly unit behavior. A low opinion of its visible damage does not justify describing it as literally doing nothing. Likewise, temporary copies from Substandard Duplicator can be useful for the period they remain active, while still being different from permanent inventory growth.
Evaluate Void corruption as a replacement decision
Void items replace their ordinary counterparts, including existing stacks and later pickups while the Void item remains in the inventory. That makes a high rating more complicated than simply adding another effect. You are accepting one mechanic and giving up another.
Safer Spaces trades Tougher Times' chance-based block for a recharging block. Plasma Shrimp trades AtG for shield-dependent missiles on hits. Polylute trades Ukulele's spreading lightning behavior for another damage pattern. Each can be powerful, but the ordinary item's role may be exactly what your current inventory needs.
Lysate Cell turns Fuel Cells into special-skill stock and cooldown support. That is excellent for some special-oriented builds, including the extra-turret opportunity on Engineer, but it can undermine an equipment-centered plan. Weeping Fungus changes stationary healing into sprinting healing, which is useful for moving survivors while losing the stationary turret interaction.
Read the counterpart before collecting the Void item. A simple S rating cannot tell you whether the conversion will remove a condition you were relying on. The right decision accounts for the existing stacks, survivor skills, equipment plan, and whether the replacement solves the current gap.
Use printers and choices without hollowing out the build
Before trading items, identify what the exchange may remove. A damage printer can be attractive while still leaving you too slow or too fragile if you commit the entire rarity pool. Preserve the minimum movement, recovery, and defensive functions the run currently needs.
Ask what the next stack changes. The first Hopoo Feather adds a route option you did not have; another conditional damage item may only add value during a window you already handle comfortably. Repeated stacks and first stacks are different comparisons.
Use the tables to narrow a choice, then apply the actual conditions. Keep enough damage to clear, enough movement to choose a safe position, and defense or recovery that fits your combat rhythm. That produces a functioning inventory across normal loot variation instead of a collection of high-ranked names whose triggers your survivor rarely uses.
